I’ve been getting an overwhelming Jewish guilt lately for basically reblogging posts (albeit fantastic posts) that I find on other sites. Worse yet, they tend to be mostly Tumblr blogs, making the guilt ever stronger (it takes such little effort to share things that way). So, while one of my New Years resolutions for 2012 is to post something to Tumblr everyday (this was a goal in 2011 as well, but I haven’t quite accomplished it), I am adding the caveat that this must include at least 2 original posts per week. This would be my first of these original posts.
You might have noticed a huge gap in my postings for about 5.5 weeks during December and January. I was running around the US like a chicken with my head cut off. Now that I’m home, I’ve finally had some time to reflect on the artistic knowledge I amassed while I was home. (If you can figure out how Dallas, NYC, and Jerusalem can all count as “home” and hence how it is linguistically correct to use “home” twice in that sentence, you’re far smarter than I…) During my travels, I had the opportunity to actually spend 10 hours in San Franscisco, 3 of which were spent sleeping, 3 in the airport on the busiest travel day of the year, 1 eating, 1 driving/ getting lost, and 2 at SFMoMA. Those two hours were by far the best of my entire week in CA (which is impressive considering my love for national parks, which is where I spent the rest of that week). They had a fantastic exhibit of Francesca Woodman’s work on view. While I’ve seen a few of her photographs at MoMA before, I’ve never had this large an exposure to her work and it’s incredible creepiness factor (which I mean in the most positive way possible). I’ve collected a few of her photographs in this post (the credits to the sites on which I found them are below), but checking out this link will take you to the full Google Image archives for her.
